Education The
Great Cub Scout Landcare Challenge was a great success with many Cub Scout packs
actively involved in activities such as helping out with a local Landcare groups,
planting trees, assisting the Friends of the Helmeted Honeyeater, going on a possum
prowl, visiting a National Park or Healesville Sanctuary to find out about our
native flora and fauna. The
Joey Scout Section has had a tremendous response to the Envirovic badge with 90
per cent of all Joey Scout Mobs in Victoria earning the environment badge.
Scout
Tree Project
Victorian Scouts set a world record for planting trees and have left a legacy
for future generations by planting over 56,000 trees at six sites at Bass (near
Phillip Island). More than 1150 Scouts of all ages converged on Bass over the
weekend of October 11-12, 1997 to plant trees.
The project was organised by the Bass Valley Landcare Group and the Australian
Trust for Conservation Volunteers. Victorian Scouts gratefully acknowledge the
support of the Westernport Region Water Authority, Greenfleet, Landcare, Bass
Coast Shire, Edison Mission Energy, Red Cross, Coast Care, Coast Action, Bass
Recreation Reserve Committee, Lions and the National Heritage Trust.
Greenfleet plant trees on behalf of motorists to reduce carbon dioxide levels
and global warming. The donation of trees towards the Scout project was their
first project in Victoria and we thank them for their generous contribution. For
